About our Management Program

Since 1952, the Farm Business Management Education Program has been
working with students who farm in the state of Minnesota. The Farm
Business Management Education Program in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota is a
department of Management Education Programs of Northland Community &
Technical College, located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
Primarily, the Farm Business Management Program teaches students, who
are actively engaged in farming, how to improve their business
management skills. It is a 2-year diploma program. Students follow a
state-wide curriculum which is designed around their personal, family
and business goals. The courses are completed on an individual basis,
on the farm. There are also classes with other students/farmers, tours
and labs; and activities in our local office.
Students learn how to construct an annual year-end business analysis,
with enterprising; cash flow planning and business projections; and
balance sheets. Students learn to improve their marketing and
management skills; learn computer and internet applications; improve
their accounting practices and business decision-making skills.
